Christian Leadership
The Christian Leadership component of Pisgah’s curriculum combines a biblical worldview with college preparatory academics, a unique opportunity that meets the primary objective to inspire the next generation of great Christian thinkers. Students discover God’s ultimate truth, their unique gifts, and their purpose in life. Paul wrote that in Christ are hidden the keys to wisdom and knowledge, therefore, being Christ-focused is one of Pisgah’s five core values. It means that we:
- Maintain weekly chapel as a top priority in our programming at all age and grade levels, with increasing levels of student involvement and leadership.
- Intentionally encourage individual and corporate prayer daily.
- Celebrate together the joy of a God-filled life for children and adults.
- Strengthen the school’s Living Curriculum, our faculty, by providing training and experiences that affirm and deepen their faith
- Being Christ focused is formally woven into our curriculum and informally practiced throughout the school day.
Preschool introduces students to God’s love. In Lower School, students focus on Character Development through the study of life and people living in biblical times. In Middle School, students study the Old and New Testaments. Lessons of faith and character are revealed as students begin to apply biblical truths in their own journeys of discovery. Upper School students take this growth one step further by contrasting the Christian faith to other major religion and cults and continuing to live and present the message of Jesus Christ while living in a secular society. Spiritual Life knowledge is put into practice daily through classroom devotions and prayers. Pisgah Faculty meets weekly for prayer and devotion, and the entire faculty reads a faith based book each summer.
Pisgah is committed to its community.
Pisgah students experience the joy of Christian service beginning in Early School as each class chooses a service project as their focus for the year. Christian service continues in Lower School as students participate in school-wide service projects such as the North Fulton Charities food drive and Operation Christmas Child.
Reverend Billy Graham was so enamored by Pisgah's outreach effort that he selected only Pisgah School to assist with the Operation Christmas Child program in Atlanta. He visited and met with Pisgah students.
On the Prep Campus, encompassing Middle and Upper Schools, students actively engage their understanding that they are important members of the body of Christ. Middle School students participate in an annual Day of Service working with 13 different organizations to demonstrate how heart and hard work can make a big difference. Past projects include recording Bible books on tape for Beacon of Hope, creating Knots of Love blankets and sorting clothes for Foster Care, cleaning up trash in Newtown Park, creating original artwork for local assisted living homes and hospitals, preparing toiletry care packages for the homeless, and comfort care packages for children in the care of police and fire personnel. Upper School students serve as hands-on helpers in the annual Habitat for Humanity High School build and have helped to construct a house right on Pisgah property.
Community Service is not limited to planned projects. Students demonstrated their faith through community service by:
- Raising more than $30,000 and sending three mobile storage pods full of supplies to Hurricane Katrina victims. Less than eight weeks later, Pisgah students raised an additional $15,000 for Tsunami victims.
- Sending more than 1,000 pairs of shoes in a three day time span for children in developing countries.
- Giving more than $17,000 in pennies for Leukemia patients, the second highest in the state of over 600 participating schools.
Sharptop
Early in September, the exhilaration of the annual Sharptop Retreat for Middle and Upper School students is the talk of the community. The three day mountain retreat reunites the Pisgah family in a powerful celebration of God, family, and fun. All Middle and Upper School faculty chaperone the retreat ensuring that every child is known by Pisgah faculty. Even Pisgah parents take time out of their busy schedules to work at the camp. Volunteers sign up months in advance to work at the retreat.
