Pacekeepers
The Pacekeepers program is for students in grades 2-5 who struggle to perform at a college preparatory level, but with assistance, can remain in the regular classroom for their core courses. Students in the Pacekeepers program have their education “quarterbacked” by a learning specialist who has earned a Master’s degree and is trained in Orton-Gillingham based reading instruction. The learning specialist pulls students out of “specials” or other times during the day to deliver individualized instruction to help them keep pace with the class. This instruction includes pre-teaching and re-teaching of concepts. In addition, the learning specialist will work very closely with the teacher to help proactively plan for modifications in instructional strategies and assessments to meet the needs of each student in the Pacekeepers program.
To qualify for the Pacekeepers program, a psycho-educational evaluation conducted by a licensed psychologist must be made available to the Lower School Student Support Team and the IMPACT staff.
