Arts

Experiencing Pisgah cultivates a deep and abiding love for the arts.

Through wide-ranging, hands-on exposure and deep study of varied art forms, students from Early School through Upper School develop a life-long understanding and appreciation for the arts.

Pisgah Early School learners are exposed to Mozart, Rembrandt, Picasso, Chopin, and many more artists utilizing fun, interactive activities. Lower School (LS) budding artists produce creative, one-of-a-kind originals that are put on display monthly during the Lower School Principal’s Gallery, a reception featuring the works of 12 selected student-artists using a variety of mediums. Annually, Spring Extravaganza transforms the school into a veritable art gallery exhibiting an original piece of artwork from every student, including preschool.

Weekly music classes culminate in two performances each year in Early School while every LS class performs a full scale theatrical production each year. Previous full productions included A Branson Christmas, Wizard of Oz, Jack and the Beanstalk, I Need a Summer Vacation, and a Christmas Pageant with a full nativity.

Formal opportunities abound for older primary students in 4th and 5th grades to express artistic aptitude through Pisgah’s after school band and/or hand bell choir. Beginning Fall 2007, Pisgah introduces a student-led Chapel Puppetry theatre.

Artistic exploration begins in earnest during the Middle School (MS) years as Middle School students master monologues, skits and improvs during drama class. Serious study of music begins as all MS students learn the keyboard and how to read sheet music. These abilities are sharpened four times weekly through band and chorus.

Upper School (US) students deepen their knowledge of and appreciation for arts through actively participating in a new 12,000 sq. ft. dedicated Fine Arts wing housing a drama/chapel area, six state of the art classrooms and a visual arts classroom. The dedicated space has proven conducive to creative exploration as the AP Arts and Photography classes earned Pepsi Pop Art awards on recent projects. The commissioned art projects were displayed at the North Point Mall.

The US Chorus put together a variety of songs such as those from High School Musical and Aladdin to create a memorable Cabaret Night while Drama students took 3rd Place in the sub region One Act Competition with their presentation of Class Action.

Middle and Upper School students capped the year with a “Salute to the Arts” with guest artists Atlanta Seventeen, an evening performance that melded visual and performing arts into spectacular celebration.
